SS Noronic & Hamonic
Back in October 2005, I ran a peice on the SS Hamonic with help/contributions from T.R. Anderson II.
I was going though some old post cards, when I came across this one of both sister ships. Both of these great ships of the Great Lakes met tragic endings with fires. The Noronic with a large loss of life in Toronto September 17, 1949
This tombstone in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto markes the tragedy.
There’s also a plaque about 25 meters West of the Toronto Islands ferry dock marking where the fire happened.

I’m reading an older book right now on the Noronic, coincidentally. Like quite a few other famous nautical disasters, this one is no stranger to gross neglect on the crew’s part, both in terms of contributing to the disaster and in the poor response to it.
