1989 Ontario Street – Part II

Back in May, there was this post about this house. Since that post started, it has attracted some of the weirdest comments of any post I’ve ever had on here. So in the five months since the first post went up, what’s the current status? Here you go: As winter approaches, it still looks...

Walkerville From Above – c. 1970

Happy Friday once again everyone. Today is an undated photo of the Walkerville Area from above. I’m guessing the date to be about 1970 or so. The old Train Station is gone, and the Waterfront Ford Plant # 1 is also gone. It was demolished in 1969. So I doubt that the picture is...

Below is a builder’s ad dated June 15, 1929, for what was then 66 Loraine Avenue in Walkerville. View Larger Map The house has survived nicely over the years. At some point the Tudor elements were covered over, but all in all a really nice example of the boom years of South Walkerville, and...

Leo Page Residence – 1919

2072 Iroquois St

View Larger Map Just south of Ottawa Street is a small subdivision that sprung up at the end of WWI. Along Iroquois and Dacotah are a vast mix of interesting houses. The house above at 2072 Iroquois, isn’t all that different from when it was built, as the builder’s ad below shows.

Detroit River By Moonlight

Another old postcard from the archives. This one judging from the car dates to the mid 1920’s. No idea where on the river this was taken, but an interesting view into the past of what once was.

Chez Gyliane – 1988

From a restaurant review that ran in the Free Press, April 22, 1988: The building at Wyandotte and Kildare is more well known today as the Kildare House… View Larger Map In the mid 1990’s I believe it was known as either Shilhouettes or the Limelight Lounge? Maybe both? I need a long time...

451 Park Street West – 1965

So this picture ran on the Windsor Star’s from the vault the other week. I thought it was pretty neat old shot of the School Board offices, and deserved further investigation. So here it is, from June 24, 1965: NEW AND OLD – Work has been completed on a $462,000 addition to the Windsor...
